Three male House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) beg for bread handouts as people enjoy a lunch outside in downtown Seattle, WA. These birds are quite resourceful in the urban environment and add a lovely song to the perpetual din of traffic and air-exchange systems. Like crows, rock pigeons, gulls and a myriad other life-forms, the little brown sparrows have adopted human beings as close companions, even though the relationship is not always free of risk.
