A Wilderness Pushed Back, But Not Far by

Looking north along Cambie Street in Vancouver, BC. Vancouver is a bustling, cosmopolitan and very urban setting placed at the edge of vast wilderness. The North Shore Mountains loom large, with fresh snowfall revealing sinewy avalanche chutes among the dense stand of trees. The rugged and wild mountains are a constant reminder that western civilization has only had a short tenure in the region. Situated next to glacier-covered Cascade volcanoes and deep, earthquake-prone ocean trenches, the city’s toehold on the Pacific coast is probably a precarious one.
