My name is Frithjof, living in Germany, in the near of Frankfurt and since 2000 I have had my first contact with encaustic technik. From this time I dont never painted with brushes. For my pictures I use all utilities, what wax can smelt , like an iron, soldering station, hotair gun or open flame. It is a fantastic technik and every day I find new ways.
That is the reason, I doesn’t like my art to be pinned to a certain style The paintings represent nature in abstract and at the same time realistic way. Looking at the paintings the observer will experience the power of the lively colours. Encausticpaintings are full of energy and fill the room with pure joy of living and optimism but sometimes with a trace of melancoly and sadness.
The classical encaustic art of painting is an antique painting technique where colours combined with wax are applied on stone, wood or ivory while they are a hot liquid or with a cold application by hot spachelars, the cauteria burned into the undercoat.
This technique was already known by the Egyptians. ( portraits of mummies ) and came to its peak in the classical epoque of Greek arts.
The art of encaustic paintings used to be a reliable and long lasting media of painting long before the invention of oil painting. In the Middle Ages the knowledge of the encaustic technique got lost probably the difficult handling stopped many people practisig it.Today the problem has been solved because of modern electrical equipment, The cauteria has been replaced by the easy to handle paintig iron. Today we are able to explore the secret of the shining colours and to create a new painting technique.
