Grid on the Corona Road by

This image was from a photo taken in 1989, when on an image scout with my Broken Hill mate Clark, it was a windy type day, outside of the ute all you could hear was the moaning of the wind spirits through the blue bush. We got some great images that day, I’m still painting from those pics.

LoVe the detail in the road’s foreground. The hills look great ! How big is it ?

  • thanks for the kind words, Sarah. this is four feet by four feet in the old money, (1220mm x 1220mm) it is too big and awkward to lug around so I stopped doing these dimensions,

Yeah! Thats why photography and computer art is good uH. Put it all in a lap top and off you go !
I used to work with slide film under a magnifying glass. Used pins, razor blades, scalpels. That didn’t take up much room! Really light weight too ; ]

  • hmm, but there is nothing like the freedom of attacking an acre of canvas with a big brush, as my wife puts it, she would prefer to paint than to embroider, your slide film sounds like fine petit point embroidery to me.
Now I still paint large but I like doing just a little bit of embroidery to keep my hand in…..

I just LoVe DETAIL ! Get obssesed with fine tiny details. I have never done big work. Started my first a while back ( Acrylic on canvas ). It aint finished of course, cause i got all hung up on the detail ! I would love to have the space to cut sick on something really big one day. the freedom and liberation of big works has eluded me thus far.
    Any how’s. Love ya details : )

  • well, I’ve just started a small canvas today, about 600mm x 400mm and it is full of detail, I find that the smaller paintings take just as long as a large one, but anywa, I just love to paint. If you get bogged down with detail, ya just have to use a bigger brush and repeat that mantra—-DON’T GET BOGGED DOWN WITH DETAIL.

The detail in this painting is excellent. The colours are so close to the real thing, and you have great perspective. I really love this well done!
