"My Flannel Bag"
I’ve a flannel bag made of purple color,
kept in a drawer, held under cover.
It’s a place where I, can chunk my change,
to hold in store, for that rainy day.
I recall a time, when in days of plenty,
within my sack was silver and pennies.
So much so, that in those days of old,
it was much like finding, a pot of gold.
Times have turned, for in the days we live,
there seems hardly enough, to buy us bread.
My flannel bag, that once filled with coins.
Is less full of silver, with just pennies to scorn.
It takes many more pennies, to make a dollar,
makes saving for later, way much harder.
I’ve stopped buying food, to help pay all my bills,
turned down the heat, so these bones feel chilled.
What ever happened to our great middle class,
our politicians told us, we can all kiss their backs.
Great statesmen of old, gone the way of the dust,
in their place only leeches, who earn rewards taxing us!!!

very true , l think a lot of people are struggling these days, the politicians tell us there are a lot more cuts to come
Thank you for your comment Lynn, I told my husband recently soon their won’t be a weight problem in America because people will of necessity have to eat less and pay more for what they do eat! I fear for the generations that follow me :0(

Right on ! When ever you see someone in polotics go up to them and just say , " FYI ". Walk on and let them think it means , " For you information " . No so anymore . I though how I could cuss someone out without doind so . " FYI , F___ you idiot ". Most just smile that phony smile and say thanks .

So very true, Barbara. What happened to us as a nation? Once great powerful leaders stood watch over us. We need to get back to the way we ran this nation 200 years ago, without all the excess and crap.
I couldn’t agree more M, my personal feeling is, the term middle class is nothing more than enigma. In reality it was created to sell other nations on our ideas and way of life. It was built on a debt based monetary system that made it possible for most americans to have and enjoy a way of life that wasn’t possible 50 years ago for many. The problem was not many of us were able to garner significant net worth apart from our homes and personal property. In our area we saw the value of our homes increase at a fairly rapid rate in the last ten years and property owners began to live on the equity they had accrued. When the bottom fell out in real estate, property values dropped and the job market failed, it left many homeowners in very real bind. When I look at things presently I am in awe as to how we could have let this happen. Our free society in reality isn’t free at all, we are owned by the bankers of the world and we have spent the incomes of our great grandchildren into oblivion. The bible states, “the borrower is servant to the lender.” That truth couldn’t be more true than it is today, sadly :0(
