Danilo Lejardi – Dreaming Of Popsicles

Named “Popsicle Dreams” after the multi-colored popsicles that Maxy posted in an exhibition, yesterday that had the same color scheme as the finished, but, as yet, unnamed artwork.

I also like the name because popsicles melt, and you must relish them quickly before they do. So, too, “popsicle dreams”— these are colorful dreams that must be lived, before they melt away.

I’ve always lived out my dreams. Even if they were short-lived bursts, I always have gone for them, in some fashion or another. Then I get bored, and move to the next dream.

That’s what this piece says to me, anyway; but you may see something different. I do hope you are reminded of your own “Popsicle Dreams”, and take joy in the ones you have lived out, and be inspired to live the others now, before they melt.

I had already completed the artwork, and it was in its cooling period, when yesterday I saw Elizabeth Bravo’s Me, Myself and I. After revisiting this piece, last night, to snag a bit of it for what ended up as Girls with a Pearl Earring I thought, how interesting that Elizabeth also had as her subject a threesome of “self”. It, also, is very colorful. (There are three of this same subject in the piece, although you may have to look hard for them. Think “triangle”, and you’ll find them.) Stranger things have happened; but still, I loved the universal tie-in of the “exploration of self” theme. Elizabeth has a mind that travels the universe and mine does too. Who knows, maybe they met for coffee, out there, and Maxy joined us, bringing popsicles.

Interesting magenta and reds and blues, in shapes and patterns, to accompany the central figure here. Looks like classic and classy, pop art, Frannie.

  • Thank you, Colin. I think of it as pop art, anyway. I wouldn’t know how else to classify it.

I think you and Elizabeth would have so much to say to each other in that cafe, that you might still be there! LOL. This is beautiful, and how well this goes with Girls With A Pearl Earring

Once again the enigma, and once again these wonderful muted pinks and purples, glazing over the whole image. The title gives it a real sense of fun too. I love it so much.
    xx

  • Indeed Girls with a Pearl Earring started as a well-intended grab of the left top section of this piece, for a new artwork. Then that earring kept popping out at me, and well, you know the rest of the story.

The large work seems to have a different rhythm and feel to it— unique stories to tell and be told. Thanks so much, Anna.

Beautiful, dreamy work! Love you choice of colors and texture!

  • Many thanks, Lana. :D The textures are essentially a combination of digital brushstrokes and the appearance of a scanned oil painting of mine that had thick, small brush strokes applied in an impressionist style.

Frannie!!! This is so beautiful! I love the wonderful colors – they blend together so perfectly and there’s so much to see it’s fantastic!! The expression is wonderful and the layers are perfectly coming together definitely giving a dreamy feeling all throughout it! (It does have the same colors as the Popsicles! :-)) It’s a true world of beauty!

  • It’s amazing that it is has the popsicle colors. Had to post that picture up there! Thanks a lot, Maxy. It’s rather different for me, especially the palette, and so intensely, multi-layered abstraction.
