Three Princes – study

Oil on deep sided canvas

knife-painted

7 × 5 in.

Three princes. From whence do they come; to where do they go?
Light beings? From ancient history, the present, or yet to come?

Abstract oil, knife-painting study; inspired by Kathie Nichols’ macro photography from a shipping container , Red Dawn, under written agreement.

Red Dawn
by Kathie Nichols

Working with Kathie’s colors and experimenting with texture, ultimately led to this finished piece. This is a study for a larger canvas, planned.

Please see description and credit to Kathie Nichols, without whose inspiring macro photography, I would not have taken this journey.

I can see them Frannie…spiritual beings arriving just in time;)

  • It seems so. I like that interpretation, Shanina. Thank you.

I have seen the description… and the mention of Kathie’s work.

You have created a feeling of mystery here. I love these simple white strokes on the background colours. A great painting to come Frannie..

  • Thanks, Beatrice. I’m really happy with this loose abstract, study though it is. I can envision it larger.

Beautiful and I love the process you describe – wonderful collaboration

  • Kathie’s macros are “the best”. They are so full of inspiring marks. And although I never was happy with the way in which I tried to capture them— with mostly visual marks, the process led here. And I’m so happy it did. Thank you, Anna. It’s wonderful to know you like this piece.

I love it……haven’t visited for quite some time …………..love love love your princes.

  • Ruth! I’ve been thinking so strongly about you recently. Thank you, thank you, for coming by! The princes started as abstract rectangular swipes of the painter’s knife over the textured surface; and I had planned to leave it at that. But as I stood back and looked at them, I thought i saw what could be figures. I teased out their heads with a little paint at the tip of my knife and, voila… Through the void… I hope we see more of you here, this summer.
