Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
Hope Is the Thing With Feathers
Collaboration between Isa Rodriguez and F.A. Moore,
combines similar images created by the artists separately, and at different dates, with no knowledge of the other. The likeness was so uncanny, they simply needed to be married in one piece. The separate elements are Bird Comfort by Rodriguez and Rain-I by Moore. Poem by Emily Dickenson.
Please see Isa Rodriguez’s unique variation of this collaborative work.

Rain – I by F.A. Moore

Bird Comfort by Isa Rodriguez
The Collaboration Story
Isa suggested we marry the two similar works, after I messaged her about the uncanny similarities. Isa also wanted to incorporate a poem.
I created this original from the two original artworks (Isa’s and mine, linked), mine was a bird with an abstract raindrop, and Isa’s was a bird in the sun! Isa agreed that the Emily Dickenson poem that I selected was perfect, Hope Is the Thing With Feathers. The work came together rapidly.
You can see the morph occurring in the second frame, where Isa’s translucent bird shows my bird’s face and feather details through it. The birds were literally the same size, as were the raindrop and sun.
Isa has taken my original, that you see here, and added a fractal and coloration for her own special version, on her page. We each digitally signed our versions. And our signatures also appear over our respective artworks in this piece.
I think I speak for Isa, too, when I say that this collaboration, merging two artworks to one (and then Isa’s further modification), was fun and rewarding; but the biggest benefit was that it bonded us as friends. —F.A. Moore
Digital Graphic Artwork, by F.A. Moore, July 2009, collaborating with Isa Rodriguez.
Hope is the thing with feathers,
That perches on the soul,
And sings the tune – without the words,
And never stops at all.
And sweetest in the gale is heard,
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet never in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
-Emily Dickenson

Must be viewed large. This is a really large work, 3335×8000, in order to morph the artworks. Even the large version on RB is small; but it will look better than this. Thanks! :)
Isa Rodriguez
Frannie!!. what a delight to have worked with you !! this work has been one of friendship and work , and comfort for me . and I thank you with all of my heart.
this is so beautiful , it is so hard to place it in words.. love you for what you did with our works, and big bravo on this beauty !..

Ditto is too easy to say. It was such a pleasure. I left a longer comment on your page about it.
When I saw your “Bird Comfort”, it amazed me that our birds were nearly identical in size and that my raindrop and your sun were nearly identical in size and shape. So I ran-n-n-n to tell you!
But you were the one who immediately suggested a “marriage between the two”. I think the marriage is working. :)
I do want others to know that the middle bird is your bird, with opacity set down so that my bird can be seen behind it. Don’t they fit perfectly? What’s a little switch of the tail feathers? lol.
Isa Rodriguez
you know what. this poem reminds me of you .. you are hope to me :).. a pure friend .. thanks
the circles look as glass.. the birds are twins .. the flowers , I can feel them .. the words texted so perfectly .. thanks again my friend
F.A. Moore replied
Sweet words, Isa. I have been meaning to ask what kind of bird you photographed that day on the monkey bars? Mine is a baby mockingbird. Yours looks something like a blue bird. What was it? Even though they are different species, they are twins here. Such a nice thought.

Oh .. this becomes so much more real as I see you have added the thumbnails , which following, I will do so to .. as I read I am smiling, and when I finished the last sentenced i sure did smile .. because that is my thought too, we became friends here, what a true blessing . I couldnt think of a sweeter way for two artist to meet . This then remains always.. Hope is the thing :) . so precious , and di you know I did not know you had placed our two in the middle , and they just looked as though they were sort of mirrored, I always though it was your mocking bird,lol.. and one more thing .. yes, mine is a mocking bird. ..weeeee.
F.A. Moore replied
Really! A mockingbird? No wonder they matched up. Two baby mockingbirds. Now that is something. One with rain and one with sun.
It’s your mockingbird; look at the tail; it’s down. Mine is just showing through yours. Once I got them matched up in the first frame, where yours has the lower opacity; I put yours on the top layer in the middle frame and adjusted opacities, until it had the effect of showing mine’s head and wings through yours. But that’s it. In the third frame, it is only your bird.

This is a gorgeous collaboration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so delicate with the delicate flowers and colors and of course the birds. It is poetry in motion. And the poetry just melted my heart away. This one blew my mind away. I am so proud of this one, not only because you worked on it and you put your best effort in it, but also, because the collaboration is with my baby cousin Isa. And she does not consider herself a writer. Wow, what she wrote on that page really knocked me off my feet. You see, her father was a poet and composed music. So, she says that she doesn’t really take after him in that. But she proved herself wrong. Maybe you would like to see my comment on her page. Any way congratualtions to both of you. Sure glad to see friends work with each other and creating other things in the process. Iris
F.A. Moore replied
Iris, so now I know that Isa is your “baby” cousin. :)
I very much agree about Isa’s talent with words, and hope that everyone that comes here first will go read Isa’s pearls of wisdom and straight talk that accompany her version of “Hope Is a Thing…”. I love the special sauce Isa put on it!
Thank you so much, Iris! :D
Barbara Brown
I love it Fran!! I use this poem often because of the message of hope that we try to instill in our clients!! Lovely!!
F.A. Moore replied
It is a wonderful and beloved poem. So simple, yet profound and uplifting. Thank you, Barbara. You stopping by made the night more special.

The reason I’m here in RB is because of her. She asked if I could help her with the writing in her pieces, like poems and so forth and joined in. I’ve given her some poems, but have noticed that when she makes comments or writes to me she really writes, but keeps telling me how her father wrote and composed, that I remind her of him in that aspect, though he was not my uncle, my aunt is her mother, (but I loved him dearly and he treated me as I were a real niece). Now with what she wrote, I was amazed. She said that it was I that inspired her. I had told her before that she probably had the talent, but that she had to let it out. Maybe she’ll be writing her own poems from now on. I’ll be proud of her even more if she does. Iris. P.S. Thanks for collaborating with her in this one.
F.A. Moore replied
It was my pleasure to be invited by Isa to collaborate. I love when you and Isa collaborate on works, Iris. May the tradition continue. Thanks again.
happyfeet5
Thanks, and if you need any kind of help with writing or poetry, I’ll be honored to help. And no need to put me in as a collaboration. I’ll just help.
F.A. Moore replied
Thank you, Iris.

Fantastic Work
F.A. Moore replied
Thank you, Rajeev; my first thought is that it would be challenging, because my original artwork is somewhat under-exposed, if you will, and Isa’s had an over-exposed style. Very opposite styling. But I was pretty happy with the outcome of the concept merger.
