Acrylic on canvas 40 × 30 cm. Some neighbours of mine plant poppies everywhere in the village and they look glorious in the summer. Perhaps that’s why I haven’t really noticed this old barn door until now. I love the cracking wooden lintel. I would say the barn is about 200 years old. Original for sale.
Aaaah, old doors and barns! Always a favourite! You did this absolutely beautifully Fran!
Thanks for a lovely comment Marie.

The combination of poppies and old characterful architecture, makes an irresistible painting.
The texture of stone and wood,Si very impressive here, Fran. And the overall summer light, you’ve conveyed here is beautiful. Poppies grow from a speck of dust in stone – yet I can’t grow ’em from seed at home!!
Into my faves.
Thanks so much, Colin. Strange how I’ve only just noticed this door. I think it was only because of the poppies. My neighbours have them growing everywhere, but the only ones I have, have self-seeded from theirs!
Great one Fran! I love how the door and poppies play off each other in the composition! Magnificent work!
Thanks so much Ken. I can’t take any credit for the composition, though. It really is just like that! When my neighbours mow the grass, they leave all the poppies.
Quel merveilleux travail de patience avec tous ces poppies ! Magnifique premier plan, beautiful tones of the old door and the wall just sketched. Très délicat travail Fran, really très beau
Merci bien, Corinne. This is new for me. I used a lot of splattering for the wall and the grasses had to start off as a negative painting (with a few positive strokes added). No way could I have painted them all in, so I painted around them. Very strange concept!

Excellent Fran! The soft light and colors are so lovely, just love it!
Thanks so much for you comment, Allison. I’ve just been to look at your work and remember now that you did that brilliant pastel of Marilyn!
