The Pickle Shelf in France by

This shelf in my kitchen, is where I put the pickles and preserves when I’ve made them. The big black pots you can see were left here in the garden when we moved in. It’s a very old property and they used to use these to cook their food in, suspended by chains over an open fire. I have now rescued these old pots, cleaned them up, painted them black and used them as a centrepiece in the kitchen.

Wonderful dear Fran. Instant FAVORITE. Reminds me of old good times:)

  • Thanks so much Mary. I’m so glad you like it, it’s such an old tatty place, but I love it!

Absolutely incredible! I love the choice of subject!

  • Thanks Ken. This was actually painted as part of a series of cards for a lady who sells tea and cakes at market stalls. She wanted to sell typically ‘homey’ notecards.

This is so warm & homey – just delightful in every way.

  • Thanks Marsha. I make hundreds of jars of pickles every year and sell them in autumn. One lady bought 100 euros worth last year!

Oh this is so ‘homey’ and cosy! Lovely work!

  • Thanks Lynda. The rest of the place is a tip though! When I’m not painting I’m out in the garden growing veg. The idea is to grow enough to feed us for the year. I’ve managed 10 months so far.

Oh I LOVE the sound of your place Fran! (Sounds like mine – well the ‘tip’ part does!!! LOL)! The garden part isn’t like mine though – we do manage to grow a few vegies, but it is a battle because the gum tree roots (seeking out any moisure) get into every bit of garden we’ve ever tried to make!!!!! I would love to have a nice garden. You have done really well to feed yourselves for 10 months from yours!!!!
