The village of Varaignes, France. I passed this doorway early one morning and the wisteria seemed to be dripping from from the creeper. I loved the shadows the flowers were casting on the door. I’ve just decided it’s finished. It’s taken about 3 weeks in the making. Acrylic on canvas. 40 × 50cm. Original for Sale. 212 views as at 19 June 2010.

oh that is beautiful – i love wisteria, when the scent catches the breeze it’s just lovely :)

  • Thanks so much Sarah. I’ve never seen it as thick as this, but it’s all gone now.

Very pretty scene! Love the purple shadows.
I once had wisteria over a trellis at
my front door. The darn thing never did bloom!

  • Thanks Maryann, the shadows were a mixture of ultramarine and burnt sienna, it creates a funny plum colour.

I can smell the fragrance from here – mmmmmmmmm So glad you didn’t give up on this. Next time you get a headache from doing something like this, please just take a couple aspirin as a favor to us & forge on as we’d hate to miss out on something so beautiful!!!

  • Marsha, you give me inspiration to carry on. I really thought this one was going nowhere, but I picked at it like a bloody coalminer! I wish I could paint in a looser style and a bit more wishy-washy, but it’s just not me!
