A tripod is essential but if not at hand, steady the camera against something then set the camera on the manual setting and slow the shutter speed to 1/30 or less
a remote control or cable release is useful or set the camera on its self timer
Do the same if you want shots of lights at night which have trails, looking forward to seeing how you do
