While in Sapa in northern Vietnam my friends and I went hiking through the hills. Firstly we had a motorbike ride to the start of a dirt road which led to the village of Ta Phin, where this photo was taken.
This Red Dao woman was waiting at the start of the dirt road and, together with some younger villagers, she walked with us to Ta Phin where we had lunch and were met again by the motorcyclists.
As we walked through the rice terraces we passed Black H’mong and Red Dao villages, collecting more and more friends along the way.
Of course when we reached our destination we were “required” to buy some handicrafts – but we didn’t mind as they are lovely people and their work made good gifts for friends at home.
