The old jetty at Catho, Australia by

The coal mine near Catherine Hill Bay, just south of Newcastle, is now closed so this jetty is redundant.

The village of Catho has remained largely unchanged for years but the proposed residential redevelopment of the coal terminal site threatens to change the village forever (and not for the better)!

Taken with my EOS 400D.

Hi,

I love photography, travelling, native Australian flora and fauna, cycling and most other sports too. I also like landscapes and cityscapes.

I hope these interests are reflected in my portfolio.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you like my work.

Cheers
Fran

Love the slow shutter in this. Nice composition.

  • Hi Lianne,

25 days ago I sent this “reply” to you:

Thank you very much Lianne – I really appreciate your kind words. I notice you live in Woolgoolga – what a lovely part of the world! Regards
    Fran

However at the time I was so new to Redbubble I accidentally turned it into a comment on my own photo! Oops.

Please accept my apologies for appearing as though I didn’t reply to you and didn’t appreciate your kind comments.

    Cheers
    Fran

Nice one Fran, how long was the exp on this one.
I surfed this pier all the time when i was a boy, done a lot of spear fishing there too, theres an old ships propeller near the end of the pier, not very far down.Brings back good memories…Deej.

  • Thanks Deej! I’ll have to get onto my other computer to check the exposure time on this. When I do I’ll let you know. Catho is a wonderful place isn’t it? I just hope the locals can save it from the developers. Cheers and thank you again for your kind comment.

Great composition and shutter speed Fran… It is a huge pity about the development up there isn’t it… I hope it doesn’t go ahead…

  • Thanks Sharon – much appreciated. I agree, I hope the developers are made to keep their hands off Catho.

What a wonderful photo! Great lighting – and I absolutely love the movement in the foreground!!

  • Thanks Mieke – one weekend I rented one of the cute little miner’s cottages and got up early on a rainy Saturday morning to get this shot. You’ve gotta love Catho.

How sad but I won’t rant here about coal mining. Beautiful picture, very peaceful…

  • Yes, Ruth – it breaks my heart too. Thank you – it is a favourite location of mine. Cheers, Fran
