I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I was raised in an industrial heartland in New Brunswick, a world of smokestacks and heavy machinery juxtaposed against the glorious rolling hills of the Appalachian mountain range and the magnificent coastline of the Baie des Chaleurs.
I was surrounded by industrial artists – welders, machinists, mechanics, boatbuilders – who could design and build anything they envisioned.
I was first an actor, then a writer. I thought I had found all my artistic outlets. Then, in March 2006 I saw a painting in my mind, fully formed and waiting to be let out. I had never painted, knew very little about art, other than what I saw in my fortunate visits to museums in Ottawa, London, Paris, and New York.
Two years later, I have painted ~40 pieces and attracted a modest following (of family and friends I paid off!). I share a small studio in downtown Halifax.
I still know very little about art. I can’t quote terminology or best practice or fundamentals. But I can tell you what I feel when I look at art.
I hope you feel art too.
