The Orchard

The scent of cherry blossoms
woke me from dreams.
Apples, and pears too.
An eruption of tender pink and snowy white
has filled the valley with a different kind of blizzard,
one filled with honey and the quiet hum of bees.
I feel dizzy walking the rows of blossoms, breathing
nectar and exhaling perfume, for I know
I will eat these fragrances later.
I will crush cherries
between my teeth, tasting every cloudburst…
every moon drenched night…
every sun soaked day.
But for now, I daydream beneath the blooms,
whispering poetry into every one,
sending secrets for you to eat
in the hearts of so many apples,
smiling to myself,
knowing you will wonder
why they taste so sweet.
