Open Heart is a photomanipulation consisting of a vintage photograph from the US War Administration, and various other details.
I recently debuted this piece at Steamcon III in Seattle, Wa. At the end of the show, I walked into the art room only to be met by a gentleman and his wife. They had purchased the large limited edition signed print of Open Heart, and were on their way out. The art curator introduced us, and the man broke into a great big smile. “I just have to tell you that you have no idea what this means to me. I’m a mechanic, a welder… and I’ve had five open heart surgeries. The minute I saw this, I knew I had to have it.”
The tears were instant. I was left speechless at such serendipity. Especially considering that this piece is unusual for me, and I wasn’t sure how it would be received. But to have that happen was one of the most amazing things I’ve experienced in my art career.
This creation,in and of itself, is awe inspiring and masterful! The story of the mechanic/welder that had five open heart surgeries, buying it, inspired and compelling. A must fave!
