Mandarin Duck taken in Arundel Wildfowl reservation area.

The Mandarin Duck originated in China, but has settled very comfortbale in the UK and can be seen on the Thames. The first pair was presented to the Prince Regent as a present by the Emporer of China.IA gift of a pair of Mandarin ducks is one of the greatest honours by ancient chinese tradition.

Yet the Mandarin Duck is now on the endangered list in China, as it hsa been hunted to extinction. So next time you go to a Chinese Resturant and order crispy Mandarin Duck, this is what it looks like before it is roasted.

glorious capture of this wonderful little duck, beautiful colours and great imagery, love the reflections too. hugsxxx

  • Thank you for your appreciation of my picture, Hilary.

This little duck used to be in abundance, but now this little fellow is coming under the endangered specie list.

I sometimes feel, that there will be a day, wehn we can the mandarin duck and many other specie, on photos like these. This makes me so sad. that humans the alleged superior specie, can be so blind , heartless and destructive. When will we wake up from the sleep of ignorance.

I love how you captured the ripples in the water which looks like liquid mercury. The contrast of the colors and the so very clear picture is just fantastic.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time and saying Hi. Your Mum told me that you where quite busy right now,

This is a beaut, CJ! His vibrant colours show off so well against that grey silky water! I hardly remember seeing one of these at Arundel!

  • Thanks Krys, this specie of duck is very beautiful and delicate.
