Beautiful.. Gorgeous little chap….I’d love to see foxes, but I live in the sticks and I saw more in the city!!.....I’ve been in a debate with a Swedish lady living in america over wether it is fox cub or fox kit….I say cub she says kit, lets call the whole thing off…ooopps sorry….what do you say?

  • C J Hummel - ... replied

Well Pete you are both right in a way. This a Fox cub, not yet fully mature but already looking more like a fox with its reddish coating, as it has sheds its dark brown fur when their are “Kits”.

When they are Kits they usually reaming in the Den or also known as the earth. During that time daddy Fox runs round and will gather the food for the vixen and the kits. He will continue to give up his food even when they are much older. During that period you see the dog fox often quite thinner than he normally would be.

Foxes are not pests as many assume, nor do they kill for killing sakes as others will have you believe. In fact we should welcome city foxes, as they eat rats, mice, insects, bugs, sometime if hey are lucky squirrel, fruits, nuts and seeds, as well as the contents of your dustbin for easy picking.

He is not a senseless killer, but will store his food in a larder under ground, for leaner times.

It is quite common that Foxes are more prevalent in cities, as their is more of an abundant food source then in the country, as we have over farmed and poisoned our country side, that many of the specie which the fox lived on in abundance has substantially declined.

Thank you very much for the kind comment. I wish I could live deep in the country or preferably in woodland.

Great focus and lovely moment with wide open mouth. Such an expression of anticipation. He has come out ‘right on cue’ – the shot is one which looks like everyone could take it – but I KNOW IT JUST AINT SO. RIght place, right time and a camera in hand. Job well done. Mesmersing shot.
Featured – but of course it is – no question.

    Aww how cute :D

  • C J Hummel - ... replied

Marianna, they are so cute, sadly in the UK the Fox is not very appreciate it. They either case it away, kill it or chase it with hounds who then tear it apart (they call it Sport here—ugh)

  • Mariann Rea

I have heard that fox hunting is no longer allowed in the UK and I think it’s great!!!

  • C J Hummel - ... replied

Yes it is not allowed, but they are still doing it, as no one gets arrested or prosecuted in court for illegal use of hounds against foxes. Why???? Because most of the people involve din the Hunt are very influential, e.g. lawyers, Magistrates, Judges, Doctors, politicians, Lords, ladies, Princess etc.

So it is a fools law, which was passed in jest and not honoured in earnest.
