As I waited for the sun to drop lower in the sky, I started snapping away happily at birds as the Crissy Field area in the San Francisco. Presidio is home to many bird species plus a temporary stopping spot for a variety of migratory birds. I was moving from one location to another as I neared the one spot where I’ll capture tonight’s sunset. As I stayed busy looking this way and that, I saw a skein of geese out of the corner of my eye. I quickly turned to see them and try to capture them, but as I was photographing something else well-lighted and my camera’s aperture was adjusted for that scene and not for recording flying geese. Out of the many images that resulted from snapping their flight and landing, because of the low shutter speed only one turned out okay, and guess which was that image? Tripod-mounted Canon EOS 7D with Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5 IS L lens with a Tamron 1.4 teleconverter in the cold!
