In the center of the circular parking area atop Telegraph Hill’s Pioneer Park stands this larger than life-sized statute of Christopher Columbus, honoring the Discoverer of the New World. Placed in its present location in 1957, the bronze statue was created by Umberto Cobertaldo, an italian sculptor. The statue cost $30,000, and was donated by the San Francisco Italian-American community.
