i just added my very first tee-shirt, with a theme of supporting artists. it’s just so difficult to be an artist or even to perceive oneself as an artist. this is not just a modern-day problem but a problem that has been around as long as there has been someone able to pick up a paintbrush (no, painting a house isn’t the same). it’s always nice for comments and vocal compliments on your work, but a purchase is what drives an artist, along with their Vision and Creativity. these two points fade as people talk but don’t buy. We artists are a moody bunch and to be not truly appreciated drives us into depression and sometimes even suicide. granted i am not about to cut off my ear, but i have been very depressed often, even considering giving up photography often in my life, often selling my camera(s) but weeks/months later, just buying yet another camera….
by purchasing art from your favorite creative person, you are building an investment in that creative individual! you will never know how much it really means to have something more than a “I really enjoy your work” but an actual purchase. Buying art is the biggest and most sincere manner of flattering an artist, and encouraging them to do more! Actions speak loud and believe me, I am always so pleased when one of my fellow artists tell me they have sold something!
Please take a look at the shirt and help to spread the message!! Not only does it display a serious message to those wanting to support artists, but this personalized version features two of my images: one of the playa de la Costilla in Rota, Spain where i live, and also the lovely Palace of the Fine Arts in San Francisco’s Marina District. of course both images are mine
