Death of a Great Lens by fototaker

Posted on June 15, 2011

well, it happened. i dropped my camera, a Canon EOS 7D with the Canon lens 100-400 IS L (yes, DAT ONE) when i was walking down about 40ft on carpeted stairs enroute to the corner to snap the almost-full moon tonight. it made so much noise – it sounded like a steel-barrel rolling down the stairs!! the lens with camera was attached to my tripod but due to rushing (never never nevAr rush) and in dim light, i thought i had used the quick-release mounting plate correctly onto the tripod correctly, and it did hold, BUT i didn’t know the plate was on the camera backwards, and so i mounted it onto the tripod backwards and though it felt like it was correct, it fell off the tripod as soon as i started down the stairs. it’s a serious fall, and the damage is sufficient. it’s happened, crying over it won’t change anything, nor will worrying about it. tomorrow i take it in to get UPSed to the East Coast Canon Company repair shop and that delivery alone will cost a fortune! i now have two long lenses in the repair shop: my Tamron 28-300 and now my 100-400 IS L. i have other lens but the longest is a mere 135. sigh….

OKAY!! I NEED MONEY and a soft shoulder to cry on so please buy a photograph!! the repair(s) for these two lenses will be outrageously high. please help a poor clumsy magic-box handler to get his camera lenses fixed!!!

sigh
