Playing with Light by Leroy Dickson

Posted on February 15, 2008

I’ve always known that photography was about light. But recently, I’ve had a lot of fun playing with natural, ambient and artificial light. I’m thinking the edgier the light, the more I like it, now.

This is a stark contrast to how I’ve worked with light in the past. Doing portraits, flat and low ratio lighting is the norm. That’s all fine and dandy, but it really doesn’t stand out does it?

45 degree lighting isn’t enough. 60 degree, 90 degree, backlighting, now that’s fun. Give me a low hanging sun and a big reflector. Or give me a dark damp building and a Sunpak flash on a wireless setup.

I raise my glass. Here’s to light.
