Introducing Scoop Neck Tees and Unisex Tanks — FIND OUT MORE

Captured this burrowing owl on May 5, 2010 in Cape Coral, Florida, USA on an outing with kathy s gillentine Virginia N. Fred and to my suprise Gouzelka

I didn’t know there was such a thing as burrowing owls. “True to its name, the Burrowing Owl nests in a hole in the ground. Although it is quite willing to dig its own burrow, it often uses one already provided by prairie dogs, skunks, armadillos, or tortoises.” reference

There are several of these burrows in Cape Coral and the species is protected.

Photo taken and uploaded, as is, Nikon D5000, 70-210 mm Nikkor lens, 210 mm, f5.6, ISO 200, 1/250 sec, +0.5 step
Here is a young one that is being protected

  • Thanks Deborah, not living there yet, phase 2-sell his house and job hunting : ) At least we are being smart about it, so a while more in New Jersey! This was my last visit down, met Kathy and Gina the last time and Gouzelka in Philly, so it was quite a suprise! Bubblers are great!

Fantastic shot Kim, amazing how they stare! We shot some owls up at the St. Nicholas Coal Breaker and they all did this exact thing.

  • Thanks Eric! He was guarding the burrows where the young were!
