This past September was my first time visiting Yellowstone National Park. I spent the week with fellow redbubble members Scott Denny and his father Tim. As usual I had an absolutely great time and was blown away at the beauty of the park. Along with the parks natural beauty comes a variety of wildlife that call the park home. We were able to see and photograph many of North Americas great animals including Buffalo, Pronghorn Antelope, Elk, Mountain Goats and the list goes on.

This American Bison (Buffalo) and I got up close and personal when he decided he was going to cross the river in my direction. I gladly picked up my camera and decided that it was probably a smart idea to get out of his way. Some people have nicknamed them the Thunder Beast because it sounds like rumbling thunder when they run across the plains.

The American bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in massive herds. Their range once roughly comprised a triangle between the Great Bear Lake in Canada’s far northwest, south to the Mexican states of Durango and Nuevo León, and east along the western boundary of the Appalachian Mountains.2 Because of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century, the bison nearly went extinct and is today restricted to a few national parks and other reserves.

I really like this one. Great DOF and I like the little bit of grasses in the foreground. Gives the image some perspective of depth.

  • Thanks John. It is great to hear from you.
