From the ashes of Fucking, a piece which I had declared dead comes Painted Stick.
Fucking was a piece that I began during the nosedive of 2009. At some point while it was in my backpack in the rain, it got smudged badly enough for me to get a little discouraged and step away.
When 2009 finally became 2010, I gave it a new look. While the smudges are painfully visible to me, the friends I showed it to barely noticed, and urged me to continue with it. So on their coaxing, I decided to continue, but not with the original intention of the piece. Instead, I took the husk of Fucking, and reshaped it into a piece which I dubbed Painted Stick.
Why Painted Stick? Because I was reading Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins at the time.
While the original theme of black and blue, then black and green, then repeat continued, the attitude toward the piece was fundamentally different in ways that don’t add up in words.
