Formally trained as a psychologist, I evolved to eventually become a Jungian oriented Astro-Psychologist. Exploring my fine art creative side , I hope to wed the alchemy of science and art through digital photograph as I have through the merging of psychology and astrology.

I can share with you some of the methodology that I use when taking pictures. In my research, I have found that the supposed ideal times to photograph outdoors is one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset. This gives optimum lighting, and adds a certain brilliance to the subject matter in question. For all pictures, I use a tripod: I also use the delayed timer device set at 10 seconds or two seconds. The combination of the tripod and the delayed timer method helps circumvent blurring. I try “not” to use the flash whenever possible: I usually shoot the subject in the “low lighting without the flash” setting. I rely on (probably too much) Photoshop elements version 6 for postproduction.

Addressing my personal philosophy as to the journey of the photographer or “way of the artist” is far more difficult to try to explain. I am sure hundreds of books and articles have been written about the esoteric, spiritual quality of the experience. Unfortunately, I have not read any of them. My attempt when photography is “freeing myself from time and ego in order to stop time”. My mindset, when shooting, is choosing subjects that especially appeal to me. In my instance I tend to gravitate towards architectural type of settings. I can only describe the actual experience as a form of dream like awareness. The goal for me is a symbiotic unity with the object (subject matter) of the photograph. The camera in essence is the conduit or vehicle for that process. I would attempt to describe it as a form of “meditation in action”. Ideally, I attempt to stop “thinking” of the process and simply lose myself to it. That is much easier said, but very difficult at times to actually do. The ultimate goal is to move beyond time, space and ego, and through the vehicle of the camera merge with the subject matter. It is not an attempt at perfection, but an ever increasing striving towards excellence.
