    You are right. The shadow works for you here since it falls on the patch of brickwork. Being a fan of selective, have you tried doing one with the hydrant being the coloured item and the background in B&W?

    Thanks for commenting, Ranald. No. I haven’t tried selective coloring with this photograph. It’s not a process I have used too much. I was actually really drawn to the contrast of the yellow hydrant against the pinkish tones of the brick and the almost bluish-grey of the rest of the wall, but maybe it’s something I’ll experiment with at home. Thanks for the suggestion.
