I like how practically every possible opportunity announced on this website begins with the phrase:
“If you live in Australia…”
So much for Red Bubble being a “global community”.
Sorry, do not mean to be a debbie downer, this sounds like a great thing and I would be happy for anyone (including yourself) who gets to be a part of it. I am just getting to my ropes end with everything on this site being catered to those who live down under. Other than that, it think the opportunity is phenomenal. I would already have applied except for that one detail. But, I encourage everyone who qualifies to apply.

I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings… But in a sense I am complete jaded to the amount of competitions and free stuff available for US artistic citizens to participate in on the internet.
Considering that over at DeviantArt pretty much EVERYTHING is catering for people who live in the US.
And Avantcard is a Australian company and they are wanting to give back to the local community. So seriously don’t pick at me about it.
It’s Avantcards dime, not RedBubbles… It has got nothing to do with RedBubble.
And this is directly from the Avantcard site.

I’m sure there would be a Free postcard over in the US that does something similar. But you are going to have to do the hard yards to find it and promote it to US citizens on here

It’s great to see Australia supporting it’s own artists :D …I am certainly going to look into this and thank you for the link ;)

No, no hurt feelings.
I dunno… I am not part of DeviantArt… I don’t like that site, so I would not know.
And, no there is nothing like that here in the U.S. The U.S. does NOTHING really to support its own artists. So, whenever there is a cool contest or other opportunity in another country, it is usually geared to that country (U.K., Australia, Canada, etc.) and only accepts entries from that country. U.S. does not do that. If there is anything, they usually open it to everyone everywhere because that is how they can make the most money. It is our country’s fault and no one else’s, really. It would just be lovely, for once to find something abroad that is open to us folks too is all.
All I wan really commenting on is that on Red Bubble, of course there are a lot of Australian artists, and so all you see is stuff for Australian artists. This is not RB’s fault. But there is nothing from the U.S. like this to promote on here. It seems like our country tries to make money off of artists and not try to promote them. So, that is why you do not see US artists posting stuff like this. There is none. We just sit by bitter and jealous that everyone else has such great opportunities. So, please do not take my comments to heart. They are just the ramblings of a bitter, jealous American who is tired of seeing all these other artists get such wonderful opportunities and just being here and hopeless.
But, you know, after awhile, some artists who keep logging on and seeing stuff like this may get jaded and leave Red Bubble feeling as if it is catered to one core group of people. That is what I told RB to watch out for. It just seems that way right now.

Opportuniity just doesn’t jump into your boat (unless it’s a flying fish and it could all be just a big fluke). You’ve got to throw your line out to see what will bite.
And if you don’t like seeing stuff just for Australians. Then YOU… yes YOU need to get afew of your friends together and look and research competitions, and free promo opportunities in your local area.
I don’t work for RedBubble, I’m just a poor Austrralian TAFE student who happened to pick up a free postcard from the Avantcard stand and did the work of looking up what the project as all about.
You’re making it sound like RedBubble needs to control what it’s members publish and produce, and that isn’t right.
And if you find a content or something like the Avantcard thing for you guys over there. Then write and and recommend it to one of the RedBubble guys who runs the website. And it they like it they might even feature it.

“You’re making it sound like RedBubble needs to control what it’s members publish and produce, and that isn’t right.”
I have explained this part twice and you evidently misinterpreted it – and for this, I apologize. I never said that. What I said is that Red Bubble should be aware of content and know, that from a marketing standpoint, when a site (as whole) caters to a certain group of individuals then some members can become jaded. That is what I was trying to say. However you choose to take it. It is much how you seemed to be disillusioned by DeviantArt catering to Americans as you stated above. I would hate Red Bubble to get like that is all.

All I can say to this is what I have said before until I am blue in the face. We do not have stuff like that over here. None. It may seem impossible to you but it IS true. That is why you do not see that stuff posted anywhere on here. I would love for that to be true and if I ever stumble across some I will A.) Post it on here and B.) Know that hell has frozen over. American companies and the like do not cater to us. They would rather cater to everyone (especially) across the oceans because they make more money that way and that is what they are all about. But, in the end, like I said above, that is not anyone’s fault but our own. I never said anyone else was to blame – if you go back re-read my reply. Red Bubble is not responsible nor are artist such as yourselves who are doing good by posting stuff like this – I even said it sounded like an amazing opportunity and think it was cool of you to post it. I just wish that some of these things were up to everyone like the stuff is here. And, like I said…it is all jealousy. So, please forgive my jealousy – I am only human after all.
I just think this topic is not the point of you journal, which was something good and positive. Like I said, I do not mean to be a debbie downer and was just making an observation. I am just sorry that it needed this much of an explanation. I hope this makes a little more sense with no hard feelings.

For a country that has a population of 304 million, I’m sure that there is a company out there that would do something like this.
The US wouldn’t be beaten by a little country like ours that has a population of 21 million.
Computer Arts magazine accepts submissions from all over the world for digital art. That is great free exposure if they accept your submissions.
You have to keep your eyes and mind open, and not be afraid to stick your neck out to question people to see what they can do for you.

From what I have seen, Australia and the U.K. beat the U.S. at this big time. I have contemplated moving. LOL! It is like, if you don’t work for Disney or some other corporate giant, then good luck you starving artist. Even galleries here are hard to get into because they want the big names only because that will sell and money is everything.
We actually have a postcard thing like avantcard that are available in most music shops or some malls, but all the artwork on them is corporate – Coke, Pepsi, movies, music, Disney, Wal-Mart, etc. because they pay the company big bucks to do it. It is sad, really.
Here you cannot even give away your art for free at a Farmer’s Market without paying all sorts of fees. Everything has a fee. The United States of Fees! Hahaha… anyways, than you so much for being so understanding! I appreciate people like you, which is why I love Red Bubble.

Look on the back to see who produces the postcards and email them to see if they do something similiar.
Avant Card is a actual company, the have large paying clients who pay for Avant Card to produce and distribute their advertising postcards.
