The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.
RIDING WITH DAD
When I was eight years old the best time I hadWas ridding in that fuel truck sitting by my Dad
When school was out for summer I just couldn’t waitWe’d start out on our route every morning at eight
We brought range oil down to Flo’s CaféThat was always our best stop of the day
Dad got a coffee and I got a Root BeerThat Flo liked to gossip and talk off your ear
With four stops behind us it was quarter till elevenWhen we headed up north on Highway sixty-seven
On the old gravel road that truck sure would rattleBy the green rows of corn and pastures full of cattle
Dad treated customers the way you treat a friendService with a smile, on that you could depend.
Hey, how you doing, and how are your folksThen old Farmer Ted would tell us some jokes
Many life lessons I learned in that truckAnd growing up right wasn’t just luck
Kids want toys and all kinds of stuffBut most of the time that isn’t enough
They need a role model to show them the wayThen they’ll be likely to do what you say
When kids go astray it makes me feel sadThey didn’t get their chance to go ridding with Dad
Delightful. thanks so much Kanages.
Your post work skills are always a pleasure to view. The world sure has changed. Kids play videos using any free time they have. Parents are so busy trying to maintain a lifestyle that the kids are often ignored.
