The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.

    OLD NUMBER THREE

She sits at attention all polished and red
With much restoration she’s back from the dead

She drives in parades and the annual car show
This truck’s got a history that you need to know

She was first on the scene back in thirty-one
Her ten-man crew would get the job done

With two men in back and three on each side
Adrenaline pumping, they took it in stride

Her bell rang out loud as the siren roared
Facing the danger that couldn’t be ignored

The old carpet mill had burst into fire
Twenty were trapped and the outlook was dire

With no hesitation they crashed through the gate
There one thought was rescue, no fear for their fate

With latters and axes they breached the side door
Through darkness and smoke they reached the third floor

To a broken glass window they cleared out a path
All twenty escaped from the fiery wrath

As the last frightened sole came down the latter
The rescue teams fate was a much different matter

The third floor gave-way, ten heroes’ were lost
On that day freedom came at a great cost

On the tenth day of June they ring the church bell
One ring for each of the brave men that fell

Protecting our lives and making us free
They were the hero’s from Old Number Three
