The Bumpy Ride a drive-by poem by Flyrod

We had to get up early and walked down the lane
Past the shallow pond and the fields of amber grain

We could hear it coming just across the ridge
And rumbling over the Shallow Brook Bridge

The little yellow school bus that I would ride
With a dozen bouncing kids all seated inside

To a one-room school over dusty roads we went
Like a carnival ride it was quite an event

It was the first time I could spread my wings
To a bigger world and future that it all brings

Life down on the farm can be kind of tough
Scratching out a living was getting real rough

My dad made his living by breaking his back
So I wised-up and pursued a different track

For a better kind of life education was the key
And my imagination helped me see what I could be

They say in life, “you have to take it all in stride”
And the road to success starts with a bumpy ride
