Best food in the Galaxy a drive-by poem by Flyrod

Park it out front for the whole world to see
That ragtop fifty-nine Ford Galaxy

At the Flagstaff diner that’s got the same name
On date night Friday you can spark a little flame

Tuck and roll seats in Red and Black
Whitewall tires bring the memories back

Girls on roller skates bring out the food
A big old cheeseburger lightens the mood

They clip it to your window on a little red tray
That first big bite is gonna’ make your day

No cell phones to distract your attention
And here’s something else I need to mention

Friends were people that you actually knew
Not strangers on Facebook without a clue

How do you measure when the world was great?
With a two-tone car and the place where you ate

Those might have been the best days by far
When a burger and fries were eaten in a car

For dining satisfaction I’m here to make a point
That Ford’s front seats were the best in the joint

The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.

Wonderful, flyrod! And such a nostalgic poem! To think, these are the “good old days” someday for today’s youth. What will they be nostalgic for? All the thumb action on their DSs and cell phones and computer games? How boring compared to OUR good old days! LOL

  • I wasn’t old enough to drive when this car was new. But I think the social scene in those days is unequaled. Thanks as always my friend.

  • Yes Rita, most of the cars in those days looked better than they drove. Thanks.

Very cool! What a great find with the Galaxy Diner. I went to college in Flagstaff years ago but I don’t think it was there then.

  • It’s located on Route 66 West and it’s near a college. It’s the real deal inside and out. Thanks.
