•Jonah and the Whale• –a drive-by poem by Flyrod–

When that War was finally won and for home I did sail
I thought, “I’ll get a car that’s as big as a whale.”

It took a couple years just to save up the dough
It was time to live-it-up and let everybody know

Old Jonah’s back in town to raise a little hell
No more taking orders it was time to rebel

I drove from California up the coastal highway
Across the Golden Gate and the San Francisco Bay

With a buddy from the Navy who’s name was Skip
This was shaping up as a legendary trip

We picked up some gals on the road hitch hiking
Skip liked the redhead and the blond was to my liking

When I was dodging bullets on a beach in France
I thought I wouldn’t live to get this kind of chance

Those gals were feeling loose and putting on the squeeze
At sixty miles an hour they sure knew how to please

Roaring up the coastline on the blacktop trail
Times were looking good for Jonah and the Whale

The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.

Perfect. Do you use the pen tool to take out the background? I’m sooooo impatient when using it. Sigh.

  • Yes Rebecca, I use the pen tool. I create a layer for the car, and also create a mask for it so i can paint over it and detail the edges. Most of my recent images feature a glowing edge on the top of the car that is achieved by duplicating the car layer and modifying it with a gausian blur. then I erase the areas of the blur I don’t want. I use a Waycon tablet and pen for painting, erasing, and blending. It’s a catch as catch can situation at a car show, so it take considerable effort to recreate a believable composite. I always appreciate your interest.
