1 800 U GO FREE a drive by poem by Flyrod

You’ve been bad, but it’s not your fault
A minor robbery, battery, or assault

When it’s not right that you’re in jail
Just call the man to post your bail

Carmine’s Bail Bonds, has the cash
To spring you in a New York Flash

You weren’t that drunk, it just can’t be
Call 1 800 U GO FREE

That other guy’s face ran into your fist
You had to fight him, you couldn’t resist

That car was wrecked before you got there
You can’t go to jail now, it’s just not fair

You hit a guy and gave him a drumming
You told the cops, “he had it coming”

This ain’t right, it just can’t be
Call 1 800 U GO FREE

You meant to pay for what’s in your pocket
And now you’re on the Judges docket

They found a bag of dust inside your shoe
It’s not yours so whatcha gonna do?

They got it wrong, just wait and see
Call 1 800 U GO FREE

Carmine wants his money now
It’s time to pay but you don’t know how

The speeding Buick is on it’s way
The jig is up, you have to pay

You rob a store to get some cash
The law is on you in a flash

It’s wasn’t you, this just couldn’t be

The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.

    Original image
I made a lot of moves here to give this the feel of an old pulp fiction novel.

Great poem flyrod. So many things you did to this photo. How did you get the blue on the running board and fenders?

  • Thanks Paul.
Here are a few tips about the color.
    1. Although subtle, there are a lot of colors in the car refletions, especially in this one because it’s silver. First I went into Image >Adjustments >Selective Color > and removed all the cyan from the Green and yellow. This made the grass yellow without changin other colors Now the by adding a zoom blur the ground looks more like a road surface under street lights.
    2. Next I went into Image >Shadows and Highlights. There are varous adjustments in this window that open up the image and reveal detail in the shadowed areas. This can also reveal more color.
    3. Then I went into Image >Adjustments >Hue and Saturation. I increased the saturation which brought out more bright color like the blue above the runing board. The running board is black, but it reflects the blue sky above, and that is reflected in the silver paint of the car doors.
For me, the process is more about unlocking what’s in the image as opposed to recreating it. I really like the color in this car, but I didn’t repaint it. I enhanced what was already there. There’s no formula. It’s like playing the piano, you get better the more you practice. Always glad to share info my friend.
