A BLACK STREAMLINED ZEPHYR a Drive-by Poem by Flyrod

A black streamlined Zephyr split the night air
An elegant Lincoln with style and flair

Inspired by the legendary Burlington train
The American Highway would be its domain

A masterpiece of the Art Deco age
For a man of good fortune it was the rage

A smooth V-12 motor kept this bird humming
From envious eyes the stares kept on coming

The girl of my dreams was there by my side
Riding for Joy and cruising with pride

Her name was Allison Macintyre
With emerald green eyes and hair red as fire

So smooth and so clean the Zephyr would glide
The wind in my hair, a girl at my side

Later that year a great World War would start
The call of duty would tear us apart

I would be challenged and regularly tested
Now it was fate on which my sole rested

There was a dream that kept me inspired
The love of that girl is what I desired

When I made it home and got off the train
What a sight I beheld through the poring rain

There was the Lincoln with her at the wheel
We’re together again, and now it is real

For this I’m the luckiest man alive
A red haired girl, and a Zephyr to drive

Original Image fron a car show in New Hartford, Connecticut.
Of all the cars I’ve photographed there are few I wanted more in my collection than this one. As is so often the case however, the surroundings were awful and the reflections in the car were so busy. By painting and masking numerous layers I was able to clean up the image and give it the feel of a classic studio shot. Surface blur and gausian blur are helpful to the process. This is a 1941 Zephyr that was restored to it’s original design. This car is often customized, but in my opinion the original design is one of the greatest of the pre-war era.
