I remember the day back in fifty-nine
When that red El Camino was finally mine

In a class by herself she’s a mean little honey
What a great day it was when I scrapped-up the money

Arlington Texas is where she was made
Two-thousand dollars is how much I paid

She’s got a triple-carb solid lifter 348
A four-speed-tranny is her drive-train mate

In seven seconds she’ll go from zero to sixty
No Ranchero’s can get there that quickly

The little Ford’s gaze with eyes full of lust
As they trail behind her and eat her dust

If something needed doing she had the will to go
On our Tucuncari ranch down in New Mexico

I’d take her to church most every Sunday
And haul a steer to market the following Monday

“What a perfect marriage” I’d often hear
A car in the front and a truck in the rear

I think of her often when I see a big sunset
That red El Camino in the land of enchantment
