The name’s Flyrod. American car culture is my thing. If it rolls, roars, or rumbles I’m into it. Statistics and facts aren’t my gig. My mission is to track down and capture the infamous rides that make up pop culture, and to tell their stories.
They sure had some trouble in Vatican CityPlagued by a scandal it was such a pity
When Benedict hung up his red Prada shoesAnd all of those Cardinals were singin’ the blues
A new voice would come to Earth from afarIn the form of a fifty-five Cadillac car
Under the hood beat the heart of a stallionAnd unlike so many, it wasn’t Italian
It would not reign from the streets of RomeGraceland in Memphis would be its new home
It channeled its word through a man named ElvisWho drew a big crowd by swinging his pelvis
He spoke to the people through the songs he’d singMillions adored him and called him the King
But he was a just man, good looking and gallantWho spoke to the world with his special talent
Inspiring words would roll off his lipsAnd sins were forgiven by shaking his hips
Those Cardinals couldn’t sing, so they had to goThe Jordanaires backed him at every show
He feed the poor with his special mannaA sandwich of peanut butter and nana
The crowds would sing and shout out chantsAs he shook his leg in white leather pants
Lifting our spirits was his only goalHe started the church of Rock-n-Roll
Of this great event no profit foretoldA long Fleetwood Special of white and gold
Pope Elvis came here to lift up your soulThat fifty-five Cadillac knew how to roll
There’s no greater gift than music, I saySo turn up the volume and brighten your day
This makes me want to jump in and at a high rate of speed drive off to the ends of the earth! Fabulous, always fabulous, beautiful, wonderful work!
