This forest is near Camberville, Victoria, Australia on the walk to the Big Tree in the Yarra Ranges National Park.
With fire being so indiscriminate the track that we walked went through parts which the fires hadn’t touched, some were like the trees in this photo and others had been completely destroyed.

great shot, I have watched camberville change and reform ever since i was a little toddler and my parents use to take me up here, now I drive up here alot and have been photographing it for years, so sad this had to happen, its such a beautiful area to photograph and to be inspired by.

  • Thanks Karin. My boyfriend has been going up there since he was a kid and loves the area as well. He was relieved to find that the big tree and it’s closest neighbors escaped the fires.

I was so relieved too see that the damage wasnt too bad up there, say compared to Marysville or lake Mountain. Though to tell you the truth The damage and lose of life in marysville and lake mountain and the surrounding towns and mountains was so sad and depressing.

  • I can’t agree more – we drove up through Marysville and when we drove into the township, I got a big lump in my throat and almost started to cry. We went up the weekend after the lolly shop reopened and after I heard the shop owner saying that sales from the book “Marysville – In loving memory” was going to the CFA and other local group I brought a second copy from her and she almost dissolved in tears. It’s the least we can do – I’ve been itching to contribute locally since the fires.

Is there an email address in the book “Marysville – In loving memory” that i could contact to buy a copy or an address?

  • Yes, there is a website http://www.marysvilleinlovingmemory.com.au/ and apparently a dvd coming soon as well according to the website.
