Lair of the Dark Lord by Anne Pearson

Currently unavailable for purchase

My first serious venture into Fantasy Encaustic.
Done with iron & stylus on A5 card. I have since done some rework on this piece, but will leave the origianl for comparison.

castle, lair, dark lord, anne pearson, flowerfairie, harvest moon gallery

Since Sept. 2012 my artwork has focused solely on creating fractals using Apophysis 7. I love the connection & interplay between maths & art & the end results can be a wonderful mix of light, colour & imagination.

Brilliant!!! Love the way the castle looks like it’s made from the rocks…and the sky is really excellent….. like a comet has gone overhead and is dropping weird things from the atmosphere….

Great lighting too…….I’d be really proud of your first fantasty pic if I were you :D

Yep…I really like this one! Lovely colour choice and the meteor shower just makes it! The only thing I would have said was to make the castle a little off-centre., and perhaps put a few more details in the foreground…..but that is just me! For your first foray into fantasy, it’s really quite good!

    Thanks Tezz & Maria
I thought the same Maria after I had done the castle but by that time it was too late. I spent ages doing & redoing the sides of the pic & they’re still not what I wanted but the card was showing signs of overworking so I left it.

You’ve done well to give the illusion of a rocky island complete with castle. Islands can be tricky to get right!

As Maria said, it is all a bit symmetrical though.

  • Thanks Barry
Hopefully the next ones will be less symmetrical
