Another soothing gorgeous IR image to sign off 2008 with. This has a topical (well for us in the northern hemisphere) winterey feel to it and the blues and white are superb.

Naomi, how do you get those gorgeous blues? I know jack all about infrared photography, is the blue something that you add post production?
Well….originally the images come out in tones of yellow (if a custom White balance is set, otherwise it will be in tones of red or purple). Then I channel swap the colours and switch the yellows to blues and then it is a matter of fiddling with Hue/saturation to get the tones that I like. It also has a lot to do with the weather too. I find the brighter/hotter the day the brighter the blues will go (but that is probably because I am lazy and never reset my Custom White balance each time I shoot…I just use the same one all the time). I’ve got no idea…never had the opportunity to shoot snow in IR….but over here we have just hit summer so I’ve got a while to wait before I can find out =-)
