Yesterday I wrote a journal about hoping to win a Canon 400D in a local comp in the newspaper. I entered 3 pics and 1 got published as a finalist (which is great) and the winners were published this morning.
I didn’t win….which is fine, I wasn’t expecting to…....but when I was thinking that I assumed I’d be beaten by better pics!! Instead I was beaten by a cat with a remote control….LOL
I’m going to winge now so if you are not into that sort of thing you’d better stop reading now….seeya
Firstly, it was advertised as a summer photo comp – can’t quite figure out how 2nd and 3rd place exude summer
Secondly when you check out the photostream its titles “Hunters Best Photographs”....How embarassing is that if they were the best….doesn’t say much about mine does it…
OK I knew it was going to be one of those comps – most pics that got published had kids in them, a blow up pool and an animal….but whats with the cat and the remote control!!!!!

I am so sorry you did not win, your pictures are fabulous, and certainly summer. If the comps theme was summer then where did the cat and the remote come in, hardly summer I would have thought. Better luck next time. Sometimes you know in local comps, it is not what you know but whom. I once entered a writing comp that was run locally and was pipped by an 11 year old whose father was big in the council. Say no more. But occasionally the grape does taste sour!!! blessings, better luck next time. We would all vote for you!!!!

Well…..I like the winner….the second is quite quirky…not very summery though…..I think the cat is sleeping with the judge…..cant figure that one out at all…its not even in focus(does that matter?).......in my experience you cant possibly know what the judge wants or factor in their inherent insanity…..I mean….what sort of person sits for hours staring at photos?LOL

Rant all you want Naomi, I have to agree with some of the others, the first place one is awesome, the cat, that’s another story, and I don’t know that one!! Don’t see the summer theme there at all, oh well. Your photos are awesome, guess they don’t know great work when they see it!!! Keep smiling!!! :-)

well it gets me too as ive seen the same thing. just shows that it wasnt a serious comp and you were to talented for it!!! your work is so good and to be beaten by a tacky unoriginal kitty would get on my goat 2! p.s I HATE CATS!!!

Ah…Cat with a remote control….Newcastle Herald….it’s all becoming clear to me. Cute ‘n’ kitsch wins out over art every time for the plebs. I was in general store somewhere in Boganville the other day, and a local was in the process of buying a ‘gorgeous’ grey and brown pottery birdhouse that I thought was quite possibly the ugliest thing I had ever seen in all my born days. (All it needs is a cat with a remote control sitting in it!). Commiserations, Naomi. I uderstand and validate your anger.

Hehe – my company runs an annual calendar competition each year (with submissions from the staff worldwide). It’s always the dog by the swimming pool with the sunglasses that gets the most votes. :)
