Forgotton Fields
I’ve been playing with this shot for way too long. I’ve done about 8 versions and can’t decide which one, if any, I like best. This is the one I’m posting…any feedback would be great – you know how it is when you overwork something – can’t see the good bits through all of the annoying bits.

POSTSCRIPT
After reading everyones comments, I’m changing my opinion of this pic now. I’ve looked at the other 7 versions and this one is definately the best, actually by a long way so I’m glad I persisted with it…I think I’m happy with it now….and besides my limited photoshopping skills have run out – I wouldn’t know what else to do with it anyway….lol

Naomi Frost replied
I don’t know – it’s just not what I had in mind when I first started working on it I guess…..but I just looked at the other 7 versions and I think this one is definately the best.

I love the title for this image, it’s perfect! Beautiful IR work as always!
Naomi Frost replied
Thanks, Basia. It took me just as long to think of the title as it did to process it…lol I always struggle with titles.

don’t know what the other 7 versions look like but I think they can’t look much better then this one.
The fence line is great and so is the sky and the composition is smack on,so be happy with this one.
Naomi Frost replied
Thanks Hans. I’m happy with the overall comp – I just wasn’t too sure about the processing….but you people are starting to make me change my mind…lol

Great shot. dramatic sky, fence leading the eye into the picture, b/w good perspective and comp, what more could you want.

Now I see the background dropping lower and the sky turning darker towards the bottom center.. That is what makes it for me.. Forground is great too but this looks like a hint of another land far below.. Fantastic work Naomi…
JodieG
Outskirts of Narnia perhaps?
Deborah Parkin
this looks so beautiful Naomi – i love the calming blue tone in this and the perspective – there is a great sense of it being calm with a gentle wind – maybe that is those wonderful clouds and awesome sky.

Nome….you are WAY too over-critical…...superb image…up there with your best is this. Spot on exposure, wonderful composition…...depth of overwhelming proportions…..love the way the rotted fence gives texture and its line pulls you left to right through the image shifting your attention from foreground to background…awesome!

I’ve always loved infrared fences and grasses, and this is why. Gorgeous framing and content, Naomi! I can’t see any evidence of overworking.

great shot
Will Barton
Naomi, you’ve outdone yourself with this shot! Aside from the brilliant feel the IR imparts, the composition – the fence running into the hills – is just beautiful. It has the mood of a surreal fairytale and the detail and interest had me looking for ages.
GailD
Stunning work Naomi. IR is not something I know much about.
I notice this was taken in Tumut. Pretty much just up the road from where I live.

this is great Naomi…i definitely know how it is to have looked at something so long you can hardly see it anymore. but this stands up to the high standard set in the rest of your work, and i’d say it’s one of my favorites. thanks so much for always providing your camera settings…it all gets stored in my head as i consider buying a filter! you always have to use a tripod, right…most cameras have a built-in IR blocking filter, i hear…? so you use long exposures to overcome that?
Naomi Frost replied
Yeah, Nikki, you’ll need a tripod unless you are lucky enough to get a converted camera – just to use for ir. DSLR’s have better blocking filters than digital cameras so some of them are not very good at taking ir and they also tend to need much longer exposure times that digital cameras. Because my camera is just a D camera I find I can get away with as little as 2secs on a really hot day. Some DSLR’s also have hot spots depending on the type of lens you have. There are lots of webpages out there which list cameras and lenses which work best with ir. This one seems OK . Also check out what other redbubble members use and there is some information in the forums of the Infrared Group too.
Thanks so much for your comments too. I’m so glad you stopped by to check out my work. I really appreciate it.
