Stuart, I doubt very much that this puts yours to shame….it’s always hard to see how good your own shots are..to me, this is nowhere near as good as yours! I was lucky with the water flow. I took about 20 shots all at different stages in the breaking waves and this one was the best.
Thanks david and robert, your comments are appreciated.
Gorgeous shot Nome.Simply divine. Love everything about it. Wonderful smokey water. Superb colour and texture. Awesome…..ps I too hate having to shoot off before the tripod sinks….
Yes. I like the way the eyes get drawn furher and further into the picture and the way it is alive. I assessed Bar Beach (again), in 2006, for the Keep Australia Beautiful, Clean Beach Challenge competition. I my report, I wrote: _Summary
Bar Beach, Newcastle is at the northern end of a series of beaches that includes Dixon Park and Merewether. A large car park is located on the headland to the north east. Parking has been easy and plentiful, for my visits both years, to this area. The seating and a grassed area for picnickers, looks well looked-after and safe._
Highlights/Innovations
Bar Beach, is part of this strip of beaches being looked after by volunteers (Conservation Volunteers Green Reserve ‘crew’), who revegetate the dunes behind the beach. A huge task, is being tackled, based on understanding of the nature of the beach, its environment and the people who wish to visit it.
A café, patrolled swimming areas, first aid services, accessible toilets, plenty of parking, plenty of access to the beach, and a Surf Life Saving Club, give the impression to the visitor of being a well-used, perhaps “no-frills”, open, typical Australian Beach.
Newcastle Council supports volunteers who work here to improve the beach and supports the community groups and organisations which continuosly also work for a better understanding in the community of how the environment needs to be kept clean and safe.
Natural heritage, coastline protection and pollution reduction are obviously of great concern and being looked after by Newcastle Council staff in close co-operation with the community.
Here, as for the other beaches, along the Bather’s Way Coast Walk, in this section of Newcastle, I was well-informed about the efforts being put in by all concerned to keep the area clean; to influence as much as possible the forces of nature which affect the beach, to improve conditions for visitors, fauna and flora.
Suggestions/Recommendations
Perhaps, for the purposes of this competition, it might have been useful to include, in the written summary provided, responses, in particular, to the comments by last year’s judge.
Following on the comments of last year’s judge, while a great deal of (voluntary and professional) work is being done on beaches, like Bar Beach, it would be good to see a beach, like Bar Beach, even higher on a list of priorities to have it win a competition that finds Australia’s “Cleanest” Beach.
