Rippling by Naomi Frost

Rippling

I know I wrote that “this was my last upload for a while” about 3 uploads ago….but I can’t help myself.

I went to the beach tonight and captured this one and I’d like some feedback if you don’t mind

I deliberately left my IR filter at home so I couldn’t use it – and this was the result.

I used a polarising filter and an ND4 filter with this one.

ISO200 f/8.0 0.8sec exposure @ 7:34pm

Bar Beach, Newcastle NSW, Australia

This is my last comment on your shots for a while….... (LOL)

I love the dark brooding atmosphere Naomi. There is a real sense of power of the sea contained within this frame.

I particually like the different water movements between the rock and the horizon. Was this a zoom or did you get wet feet.

And as for leaving the IR filter at home. I bet you found that hard!

    Thanks, Stuart,
I was standing up on another rock and looking down – didn’t have to get wet…for this one.

Yep, found it terribly hard not to use the IR – that’s why I had to leave it at home…if I’d taken it with me I would have used it….just to see if it would work..lol

    Thanks to you too, Dave.

You want to be careful on those rocks. If they’re anything like the ones on this side of the planet they’re as slippery as anything! (I’ve done my fair share of balancing in the past)

Well I think that this is just about perfect Nome. Fabulous depth, wonderful composition. The rocks in the foreground add great interest in the image and indeed lead you through it to the marker in the middle-distance. They are packed full of texture. The sea is wonderfully exposed to give a dreamy smokey, wispy effect that seems to move and swril around the rocks as I look at them. The marker in the middle distance makes you look at the surf in the background and then leads you on to the headland. I cantdecide if the white specks are gulls or marker bouys. A truly fabulous image. Technically very good indeed. Superb camerawork and skillful processing. An instant fave! If Santa doesnt bring you a DSLR and a nice twin-lens kit I will shoot off Rudolphs nose! You make that bridge camera sing…....just imagine what you could do with a more versatile beastie!

Such a dark and brooding shot. The swirls around the rocks make me look out to the sea in almost a state a fear.

And I think you should put your IR filter in the kitchen draw for a bit if this is the result…...

Naomi… this is just sensational. I for one am GLAD you left the IR filter at home. The way you have treated this makes it look as though hours have been spent by a talented painter here. Beautiful…

this is a lovely shot. the sea is great, as is the POV. I think I might have PS’d the white dots out. It seems to distract a bit? white dots aside it is a really lovely shot. I agree with Simon… lock up the IR filter for a while!! LOL

Another Beauty! I think what ever lens you use or don’t use, your work is always beautiful. You have an eye for beauty and that doesn’t have anything to do with the camera dear. It is within you. You have a gift.
