Ah! The memories this brings back. I grew up in Newcastle and swam in the channel behind this pumphouse many times. Thanks for capturing this moment in beautiful black and white.

I’ve just read your profile – Oh my goodness! If you have only just started experimented with your camera, I can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future!
I took some pics at Caves beach with my cheap underwater camera and they look pretty good, so I believe you would be able to do magic in that area.

I haven’t been to Caves Beach yet…it’s on the agenda though.

The pumping station is so iconic of Newcastle isn’t it?? I recognised it instantly. I really like this shot, the contrast is excellent.
I live in Cardiff too, such a small bubble world. :o)

G’day Naomi,

I was born and raised in Newcastle, (on Hunter) and right up to my late teens used to spend many a summer’s day at Merewether Beach in the surf and in this pool and I rememebr that “igloo” very well.

It is an interesting subject and you have exposed the shot well in good light and composed the shot well especially in using the railing as a good strong left hand lead-in.
The depth of field is quite good as is the focus, rendering nice clear details.
The monochrome suits this subject very well and your processing has resulted in good contrasts and pleasing tones.
