Thanks for your comment. The ‘Moonflower’ is an Epiphyte which looks like a cactus. The flowers only bloom for one night, opening just after dark, and they are dead by morning. They have a very strong perfume too. I took a lot of shots before I got this right…..and used a large torch, sitting on a beer carton for the lighting.
It’s all white Emma….except for the stamens, which are pale yellow/cream. This flower is sometimes called ‘Queen of the Night’ too, quite an appropriate name. It’s one of the favourite plants in my garden.
“a large torch sitting on a beer carton” This picture grabbed me- I’m a big fan of this flower, but an even bigger fan of the description of your technique to capture this shot!
Sorry Dayonda…..I must have missed your comment. Yes, it’s a night bloomer and strongly perfumed. The flower is quite large, approximately saucer sized I guess.
Thanks for your comment blackjack. It was quite an effort to photograph this flower. It was a windy night so I had to drag the pot into the laundry, drape the washing machine in black fabric and plonk the pot in front of the machine….lighting courtesy of the good old ‘dolphin’ torch. Not exactly a professional set up but the result was OK.
IMHO, a professional is someone who has enough depth to their ability to be able adapt to a situation EXPERTLY, not necessarily someone who has a lot money to burn buying neat toys. Your result was exceptional. By all means use the torch again!! : )

Well, your efforts yielded an exceptional capture! Really wonderful. Was the flower white, or did you alter its color?

From a little cactus? Cereus or somethinng like that? So beautiful. If I’ve guessed right, it blooms at night and has a wonderful fragrance.
Wonderful macro and treatment!
