Brighton Pier

What a fantastic black and white, just gorgeous!

I avoided sepia as I thought it a bit twee.

what a magnificent pier !! ours in australia look so boring by comparison !
I think our glenelg jetty in south australia used to have a restaurant at the end of it but it was damaged in storms and was never replaced !

Hi All… until recently (last few years) Brighton had two of this sort, but one of them burned down and now only a few sticks are left poking out of the sea.

I beleive this one is now protected as some sort of landmark.

Yes… It was HDR’d from a single Raw (the giveaway being the sea being ‘still’)

I then used a bunch of post process setups that I’ve created in Lightroom to get this look.

The original colour image, is a nice photo, but not anywhere near as nice as this one ended up (if I say so myself)

Flip… I’ve only recently “discovered” how great HDR can be for B&W images. “Eleanor Rigby” on my page was a combination of HDR and then PS actions. My color original was nice too but I now think I prefer the black and white as well.

Very nice HDR, so much detail and correct exposure in this shot that I thought it was a HDR immediately. The advantage of BW HDR is that it doesnt look so overdone, which is great.

I just uploaded one aswell, I nearly only shoot HDRs, but dont often make them black and white. What do you think?

I love your take on Brighton Pier, Fliptophead. It’s obviously very sharp, and the black and white made it look a bit like a dramatic drawing. Lovely work!

Absolutly brilliant. I have shots of the West Pier before it burned down taken on B&W slide film (it was a few years ago, before digital was mainstream), I’ll have to dig them out now.
