You'll never believe what's just teleported in behind you...

...I don’t want to alarm you, but it reminds me a little of a cross between Miss Piggy and that lady that Arnold Schwarzenegger dressed up as in Total Recall when he was trying to get through the airport. It’s drooling. Thankfully, it’s holding a sign that says it doesn’t like to dine on cats, so I’m ok, but well… you might want to reconsider your current location. Where do you keep my food again? Just in case you’re not around…

This is wonderful. I love the narrow depth of field, as the EYES have it! The concentration, the readiness to pounce, is captivating…

Now I have a problem with people putting yet another shot of their pets on here.

Happy snaps just drive me nuts on RedBubble.

People take notice of why this foto is NOT a happy snap of a pet being cute:

    1- Excellent Framing:
See the diagonal line created by the cat from top RHS to bottom LHS – it draws your eye thru the image.

Also see how the distance from the top of the cat’s ears to the top of the frame is the same as the distance from its nose to the side of the frame (and its right shoulder to the left of the frame). – Nice tidy and evenly balanced.

    2- Composition:
Rule of Thirds very well applied. The cats eyes are on the top 1/3rd line, with its right eye just off centre. This makes the image naturally appealing.

Also the unusual angle and point-of-view/perspective. Flibble has shot from below the cat’s head height which makes the animal look more powerful.

Flibble has also removed anything distracting from this shot – a nice clean background and minimal use of the table top so that all the viewer’s attention is focussed only on the cat.

    3- Technique:
Depth-of-Field used superbly to create pin-sharp focus on the cat’s nose and eyes. (afterall the cat is really looking at something. By using DOF Flibble has brought the veiwer’s attention to the eyes and face of the cat and really conveyed the cat’s sense of interest in what ever it is looking at and also added a sense of humour. Flibble makes us wonder what the cat is looking at.

    4- Use of lighting:
Flibble has balanced his exposure very well across the whole of the cat. No areas are too dark or too light, or under/over exposed.

The bright lighting from behind also brings out details in the cat’s ears.

If people need to know the difference between Art and Happy Snaps then they should study this excellent work.

    This is art.
